bāzār (بازار) n.
Origin: Ancient Persia
a lively public marketplace filled with merchants, food, craft, and conversation
Over centuries, bazaars along the Silk Road became cultural crossroads—places where people traded not only goods, but ideas, techniques, and traditions.
We continue that spirit today as a central hub to find artisan, small-batch goods from around the world.
We support makers that tell authentic stories of their culture, as we believe not only in enjoying cuisines from other cultures, but also learning from the values and history reflected in them.
ON A MISSION TO CONNECT THE WORLD
👋 Hey there, I'm Perry, founder of Borderless Bazaar
For me, Borderless Bazaar started with a simple idea — there's so much incredible food and drink around the world, but there isn't an easy way to find and access many of them in the US.
Born to Chinese Cantonese parents and raised in San Jose, California, I grew up into a melting pot of cultures where cross-cultural exchange and interaction is the norm. That upbringing has always taught me the value of learning from others different from me.
From spicy seafood curry dinners with my Telegu neighbors and buying aguas frescas from the local taco truck after school, food has always been the gateway for me to explore and learn about other cultures.
Beyond my upbringing, I've traveled to over 45 countries, and I'm constantly learning about the world and the endless, intricate ways that make it beautiful. It's my passion to spread that love and curiosity wherever I go.
That's why I also started Borderless Club — a New York City born community for people to make friends from all around the world.
Every purchase at Borderless Bazaar supports an ecosystem of immigrant- and diaspora-founded businesses in the US and beyond through our Borderless Club community events and collaborations.
This bazaar to me is more than just food, it's culture, history, community, and part of a model for human thriving.
We hope you join us on this journey of building Borderless Bazaar and Borderless Club, to create a more connected, curious, and community-oriented world.
