Luji’s Chocolate

Giving West African Cocoa a life of its own

Chocolate made at the source

West Africa grows much of the cocoa the world depends on, yet the story of chocolate has often been written far from the farms where cocoa begins. Luji’s Chocolate was created to shift that narrative. Rooted in Ile-Oluji, a cocoa-growing town in southwestern Nigeria, Luji’s celebrates West African cocoa not as a background ingredient, but as the center of the story. Its bars highlight Nigerian cocoa on its own terms: single-origin, locally crafted, and paired with flavors that speak to the region’s food culture, from ginger and plantain to suya spice. The result is chocolate that connects global chocolate lovers back to the land, farmers, and flavors that have shaped cocoa for generations.

Reclaiming chocolate’s origin story

For founder Iyin, Luji’s Chocolate is deeply personal. The brand’s story begins in Ile-Oluji, Nigeria, where her family roots lie and where cocoa farming has long been part of the local landscape. Seeing the disconnect between West Africa’s role as a cocoa powerhouse and the limited amount of chocolate actually made there, she created Luji’s to help build a different model: one where cocoa is grown, crafted, packaged, and celebrated closer to its source. Every bar is meant to support the farmers and communities behind the cocoa, while introducing more people to the richness of Nigerian chocolate and West African flavor

Bean-to-Bar, Nigerian style

Luji’s Chocolate is made to show what West African cocoa can taste like when it is not hidden in a global blend. The brand sources cocoa from Ile-Oluji and nearby Nigerian cocoa communities, then crafts its chocolate in Nigeria from bean to bar: roasting, conching, tempering, and packaging at origin. This keeps more value and skill within cocoa-growing communities while allowing the character of Nigerian cocoa to come through more clearly. Luji’s describes Nigerian cocoa as naturally smooth and full-bodied, with a creamy melt that works beautifully in both classic bars and bolder flavors. Their Ginger Plantain Crunch nods to a beloved Nigerian snack, while Suya Spiced bars bring a smoky, savory heat inspired by one of West Africa’s most iconic street foods.
