Mika Shino founded Issei Mochi Gummies in 2022, inspired by the traditional Japanese mochi rice cake, a centuries-old treat made from pounded glutinous rice. Her innovation was to apply the mochi's distinctive texture to the gummy candy format, using tapioca as the base to create something entirely new in the US confectionery market. The Strawberry flavor was among the original lineup and remains a bestseller.
