Family-made Asian flavors in every handful

Three Family Traditions, One Mix

Gochiso draws from Japanese, Chinese, and Korean family tables. Its name recalls gochisō-sama, the Japanese phrase Kira heard at her Baaba’s table to express gratitude after a meal. Her Chinese Gong Gong cooked for the family, her mother Coco made a beloved furikake snack mix, and Brandon grew up with Korean food prepared by his Umma, who ran a restaurant in Edmonds, Washington. Gochiso gathers those memories into lively snack mixes, treating Asian flavor as something specific, personal, and meant to be shared—not a single catchall taste.

Kira and Brandon Cook Memory Forward

Kira is half Japanese and half Chinese; Brandon is half Korean and half Irish. Both grew up around relatives who used food to keep culture close. In summer 2024, they began turning those family memories into Gochiso. Kira brought Coco’s furikake mix as the starting point, while Brandon carried the influence of his Umma’s Korean cooking and restaurant years. Together they built a brand that lets their blended backgrounds coexist in the same bowl. The project is both a tribute to the people who fed them and an invitation for other families to make new snack-time traditions.

Small Batches, Layered Family Flavor

Gochiso began with home-kitchen experimentation and repeated tasting. Kira and Brandon took Coco’s crunchy furikake mix as a foundation, then developed combinations inspired by Japanese, Chinese, and Korean pantry flavors. Umma’s Mix uses gochujang’s fermented chile depth to bring savory heat without flattening the other ingredients. Production stays focused on small batches, even seasoning, and a deliberate mix of shapes and textures so each handful carries crunch, spice, sweetness, and umami in balance.
