Nemi means “to live” in Náhuatl, and the brand uses that idea to present Mexico as vivid, contemporary, and proudly complex. Its snacks combine fiber-rich nopal cactus with ancestral seeds and market-fresh chiles and spices. Rather than leaning on stereotypes, Nemi shares the colors, energy, ingredients, and everyday flavor of the Mexico its founder knew growing up in Mexico City.
One Founder Refuses the Stereotype
After moving from Mexico City to Chicago, Nemi’s founder searched the grocery store for Mexican food and found an “ethnic aisle” that did not reflect her experience. The products felt static, while the Mexico she knew was lively, innovative, and ingredient-driven. She created Nemi Snacks to put that fuller cultural picture on shelves and to give shoppers a modern taste of home.
Nopal, Ancestral Seeds, Fresh Spice
Nemi builds its snacks around nopal cactus, seeds, chiles, and spices, working with small independent Mexican farmers who use sustainable techniques. The company also partners with women of color in roles often reserved for men and supports a local food-justice nonprofit. Ingredient sourcing and social practice are treated as part of quality, not as separate promises.
