African Style Potato Chips, Barbecue Chili

Origin / Influence: EAST AFRICA

$5

Potato chips seasoned with East African barbecue chili spice: smoky, bold, and built on flavors the snack aisle has overlooked.

  • East African BBQ chili flavor: A smoky, spiced barbecue profile that draws on the berbere tradition of Ethiopia and the piri piri chili culture of Kenya and Uganda.
  • The continent's most underrepresented flavors: While North African food culture has gained some US visibility through harissa and za'atar, East African seasoning traditions remain largely underappreciated in the US.

For the bold snacker who wants a new kind of heat, and for the adventurous eater who wants to explore African flavor traditions beyond North Africa.

Origins

Green Sahara's founder grew up in Lagos and built the brand to bring the African continent's diverse flavor traditions to US shelves. East African cuisine is shaped by indigenous ingredients, Swahili coast trade routes, Indian Ocean spice traditions, and Ethiopian berbere culture to produce some of the continent's boldest, most complex flavors. Ethiopian berbere spice blends up to 20 spices including fenugreek, cardamom, and coriander alongside chili heat; Kenyan and Ugandan cooking features piri piri peppers and smoky BBQ traditions.

Taste: Smoky, Nutty, Spicy.
Texture: Crispy potato chip.
